MAGNESIUM TO THE RESCUE!
My first encounter with Magnesium… (that I took notice of)…..happened sometime during peri-menopause. I remember talking with a friend who was going to a progressive Functional MD GYN in the area, who had told her to take Natural Calm at bedtime to help her relax and sleep. It was during this time I was having a horrible time sleeping. I could fall asleep just fine…..but I would wake up in a panic around 1:00am and could not get back to sleep and I would be wired for the rest of the night 🙁 Yes, I was under stress.. Yes… I was also dealing with an autoimmune disease…..Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis….and all of this added to the fire! But I will tell you that the first time I took Natural Calm….low and behold….I felt calmer! I started feeling tired! I fell asleep!! Alleluia!! Those of you who have had difficulty sleeping can definitely relate!
And….let’s not forget to mention another benefit of Magnesium…..Regularity! If you are having problems with regular bowel movements, you MUST be on a daily regimen on Magnesium. Magnesium Citrate is the best for constipation problems, and as a calming agent.
Magnesium is both a mineral and an electrolyte. It’s the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and necessary for electrical activity in the heart and brain. It is also a co-factor for more than 300 reactions in the body. Personally like to take a Magnesium supplement that has a combination of different types of Mg. Most of us are deficient in this critical mineral and should be supplementing every night. My Magnesium of choice is OptiMag by Xymogen which contains Magnesium Lysinate Glycincate Chelate and Di-Magnesium Malate. But sometimes I will add in Natural Calm as well since it has Magnesium Citrate! So many different options!
One of my best friends who I played tennis with, was having a reoccurring issue with her calf muscle. It would swell up on her after working out too much…. and then she would be out for a several days UGH!! Know what made it better? Magnesium every single night!! Just sayin’….
OK!! just in case you need more convincing. Ever have Restless Leg Syndrome? Palpitations? My sons have! UGH! Not fun! Let me tell you there is nothing better for Restless Leg Syndrome than Magnesium!! Yay!! Researchers believe that magnesium helps muscle relax because of its calcium blocking abilities. If magnesium is low, then calcium isn’t blocked and nerves become overactive and trigger muscle contractions.
